Every story starts somewhere
Welcome to a small collection of invented opening passages. These are sample books, created for this demonstration. No purchases or signups are required.
The Elsewhere Cycle
The Atlas of Elsewhere comes first, followed by A Garden of Doors. Read their openings below. The other four novels stand alone.
The Atlas of Elsewhere
The first thing the atlas stole was the river.
Lena noticed on a Tuesday, with her breakfast cooling beside the workbench. Yesterday the river had curved around the city like a sleeping cat. Today there was only a thin gold line, and in the margin, in handwriting she did not recognize, a single instruction: come before the ink dries.
A Garden of Doors
There were seventeen doors in the garden when Lena went to sleep, and eighteen when she woke.
The new one was pink, which seemed an unreasonable color for a warning. Through its keyhole came the smell of rain on warm pavement, a sound like someone laughing in another room, and the distinct impression that she had been expected.
A note for authors
Your own page can link books to Amazon, Kobo, Apple Books, an independent bookshop, your own store, or another public HTTPS destination. Each book’s Amazon button opens the site creator’s real book through a regional short link. Open “More places to read” on a book card to read its fictional excerpt.
